Application Requirements for a Free Webhosting Account

To apply for free webhosting on WCN you'll need to gather the following information:

  • Organisation Details
    • Organisation Name
    • Organisation Registered Name
    • Description of the organisation's purpose or activities - one brief paragraph - it may be displayed in the listings on the WCN website
    • Type of organisation eg: Trust or Charity etc.
    • Full address of the organisation
  • Website Details
    • Full domain name (eg yoursite.org.nz) or desired subdomain name (eg: yoursite.wellington.net.nz). Please note we will not be able to give you your exact choice of subdomain if another WCN member has already got it. We may also suggest that you change your desired subdomain name if it is very long or for any other reason is inappropriate.
  • Contact Details
    • Organisation Contact - this should be the president or other official of the organisation
    • Web Admin - this should be the person directly responsible for administering the website. This must not be the same person as the Organisation Contact. The WebAdmin will be the person who we will communicate with on a day-to-day basis. We will only contact the Organisation Contact if we can't get hold of the WebAdmin. Either person can, and must, authorise any change to the contact details for those two positions.
    • Public Contact - this should be the contact that the public should use when needing to contact your organisation. These details will be displayed on your website and may also be displayed in the listings on the WCN website
    • For all three of the above we need
      • Name
      • Email
      • Phone (not a mobile)
      • Alternate Phone (can be a mobile)
      • Fax - if available
  • Other Details
    • Account Type - by default all new accounts are setup with a basic cPanel account. We can also offer an advanced account which has many more features available. Most notable feature is the installation management tool called Fantastico. This enables users to install any of a number of Content Management Systems in a matter of minutes. Both account types feature access to comprehensive web statistics reports so that you can monitor your website's effectiveness and/or popularity. Both account types allow FTP access as well as cPanel access.
